Social Housing in St. Thomas and Elgin

The City of St. Thomas' Ontario Works Department looks after the funding and overall administration of social housing programs in the City of St. Thomas and the County of Elgin.

"Social Housing" means rent-geared-to-income or subsidized housing programs. In most cases, rent is based on 30% of a household's gross income. Most social housing providers also offer some units at full market rent.

Subsidized housing is available at over 1,300 units in St. Thomas and Elgin County, including townhouses, apartments, duplexes, and single-family homes for families, singles, and seniors. Some supportive housing is available as well.

St. Thomas and Elgin County Affordable Home Ownership Program

As of March 12, 2009, 24 downpayment assistance loans have been approved for home purchasers in St. Thomas and Elgin County. There is no additional funding available under the Homeownership Program at this time. In the event that the Program is extended by the federal and provincial governments, information will be posted on this site after April 1. 2009.
