Women's Residence
...a home away from home Since1929 the YWCA has provided emergency accommodations for single women. The need for crisis or long and short-term housing for single women has significantly increased. The Residence Program has a continuous waiting list. Seventy to eighty women arrive at our doorstep annually to receive assistance with their housing needs. Last year we provided 416 emergency nights to women displaced by mental health cutbacks, people making transitional changes in their lives, and low-income individuals requesting space in our twenty-five bed facility. The YWCA has accommodated women between the ages of 16 and 90 years of age for over 75 years. This program receives no government funding and relies on the rent the women pay and community sponsors. The Adopt-A-Room Campaign is an ongoing project that involves agencies, institutions and members of the community adopting a room for renovation. There are always rooms available for adoption. If your group or organization would like a tour of the residence or a presentation to learn more about the YWCA Women's Residence Program, we would be delighted to provide either.
