POSITION: Aquafit Instructor for Adults, Terrace Lodge
REPORTS TO: Manager of Community Programming
SALARY: $15.00 per hour + 4% vacation pay
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Community Program Coordinator, Aquafit Instructors are responsible for leading safe, educational Aquafit classes. Instructors will demonstrate professionalism, follow and ensure all patrons are adhering to Ministry of Health Regulations for swimming pools and safety measures. Instructors are expected to prepare music and routines in advance, which will provide a variety of safe and fun workouts for participants. Record daily participation numbers and cleanup of the pool area after classes. Instructors are expected to maintain qualifications and attend staff meetings. Participation in other instructors’ classes, attending workshops and other professional development opportunities are encouraged.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma and some university or college education preferred. Training in fitness leadership, anatomy and class design.
- Experience is preferred but not essential if willing to train. Preference will be given to individuals also working as a lifeguard and/or aquatic instructor for the YWCA St. Thomas - Elgin.
- Standard First Aid and CPR
- Preferred Aquafit certification
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong demonstrated leadership skills.

Position: Before and After School Program Supervisor (on call staff)
Reports to: Manager of Community Programming
Education Qualifications:
- Post Secondary Education in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Work, Recreation and/or equivalent training or related experience.
- Minimum two years related experience working with school aged children
- Must hold a current First Aid and CPR Certificate from a recognized provider
- HIGH FIVE Certification in Principles of Healthy Childhood Development an asset.
Skills:
- Experience implementing school age programs
- Demonstrate ability to interact positively with children
- Provide a nurturing and caring environment for children
- Maintain an orderly physical environment to enrich the optimal growth and development of children in programs
Responsibilities:
- Implement daily activities for the children in the program that contribute to the care, growth, and healthy development of children
- Complete daily records/logbook and/or forms as outlined by the YWCA and Ministry of Community and Social Services in a timely fashion
- Supervise children at all times to ensure their safety and well-being
- Demonstrate and model appropriate and logical consequences for behaviour management as outlined by the YWCA and Ministry of Community and Social Services
- Build and maintain a positive and healthy relationship with co-workers
- Report and document details of all serious occurrences to appropriate personnel immediately
Additional Requirements Prior to Hire:
- Provide a Police Records Check
- Provide 3 work related references
- Provide proof of First Aid and CPR
