Outdoor Recreation and Parks

Birding

Elgin County is a warm, southerly area of Canada. Late springs mean later leafing up of the trees, and thus improved visibility for bird watchers. The north shore of Lake Erie is a major migratory route for raptors, and a resting place for birds that have just crossed the lake. The Carolinean woodlands, and largely rural areas of the county are very attractive to birds. The clean air, low traffic, friendly small towns and major migratory bird routes are very attractive to birders.

Parks, Playgrounds & Recreation Facilities

Elgin/St. Thomas contains many beautiful parks, playgrounds and recreation facilities. Many of our Provincial Parks and Conservation Areas boast many features, from beautiful beaches to the camping facilities.

Beaches

Port Stanley boasts the largest natural harbour on the north shore of Lake Erie. Along with vibrant commercial & recreational fishing opportunities, the clean & sandy beaches are there for your enjoyment. Little Beach, located at the end of Main street, is shallow & ideal for small children. Main Beach, located at the end of William Street, also offers ample parking, public washrooms & close proximity to food concessions & restaurants. Port Stanley's marinas & marine suppliers have everything you need for your fishing & boating pleasure.
