Education and Training

Elgin County and St. Thomas have a commitment to education which gives our children the best possible start and makes lifelong learning readily available for everyone who lives and works here.

The Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) is one of the largest public boards in Ontario and serves an area that spans the cities of London and St. Thomas, and the Counties of Middlesex, Oxford and Elgin; over 7,000 square kilometres. It provides elementary and secondary public education services to families in three counties, as well as facilitating important community and social links.

The London District Catholic School Board provides education for Separate Catholic Schools. Catholic schools provide a complete academic program in an environment that integrates learning, religious instruction, Catholic values and spiritual formation into all aspects of the curriculum. The schools have strong links to local parishes.

Elgin County also has a variety of private schools and early years educational facilities for those who desire them.

Residents of the area do not have to travel far afield to study and upgrade skills in the areas of technology, trades, health care, computers and business. Fanshawe College - St. Thomas/Elgin Campus has served the training and educational needs of St. Thomas and Elgin County since 1969. They provide diploma and certificate programs in arts, humanities, social service and a host of other disciplines as well.

Having ready access to post-secondary education improves the lives of residents, strengthens the local economic base and provides a skilled workforce to the companies operating in St. Thomas/Elgin. It is also a centre for lifelong learning whether career related or for personal development.
